Lecturer in Theater Mallory Catlett named Co-Artistic Director of Mabou Mines

Guest Lecturer in Theater Mallory Catlett has recently joined renowned experimental theater  as co-artistic director. 

Catlett developed the Obie and Bessie Award-winner "" while a resident artist at the avant-garde collaborative. The "meditation on memory and decay" (NYT) was later presented at the  in 2014 before returning to  in 2018. An installation of the piece called "," described as "an artifact and experience," was developed in 2018 at a residency at , the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was later presented at LaMama's CultureHub. Catlett is currently directing "," in development at Mabou Mines in collaboration with performer and writer and composer  who conceived the song cycle that traces women’s experiences in Vicksburg, Miss. during four different eras in American history. Catlett will also serve as mentor for Mabou Mines' long-running .

Under Catlett's direction, students in the Theater Program's fall 2020 Performance Ensemble and Advanced Performance Ensemble courses researched and explored several texts by Japanese playwright and director  from a variety of angles and approaches.
