Associate ůůֱ²¥ of East Asian Studies Shiamin Kwa will give a lecture titled "Reach Out and Touch Someone: The Haptic Dreams of Gareth Brookes" at Ghent University in Belgium on Nov. 14. 
 

The series is a thematically open set of talks by renowned comics scholars. It offers a platform for international researchers to introduce their latest research activities to a broad public. Most of the lectures are held in English at Ghent’s city library, De Krook.

Kwa is an associate professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures and comparative literature at ůůֱ²¥ College. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Chinese literature from Harvard University and her B.A. in English literature from Dartmouth College. Her written work explores relationships between form and content, text and image, self and self-presentation, surface and depth, and the conflicts between what we say and what we mean. Her research interests include theater and fiction, food studies, graphic narratives, literary studies, cultural studies, comparative and world literature, and literary and narrative theory.
